- Doping and performance enhancement will stop as soon as you take away any monetary or material gain from sport. Bigger contracts, prize money everything is dependant on performance so anyone who doesn't push the performance envelop will fail in the end or never be as good as their peer group.
Outrageously talented athletes come along in sport so rarely that other have to do what's necessary to try to keep up so the vicious circles of performance and gain continues. It will never stop as long as people gain.
I've got over the fact that it happens, I don't condone it but I want to watch the best cycling there is. We are blessed right now, Tadej, Mathieu, Wout, Jonas etc, It's a golden era to watch bicycle racing.
- the point is not if he is good or bad (obviously is a great rider.. I buy him in all the gambling games, ahahaha). The point is Tour de France. For Lidl (and also in my humble opinion) he didn't meet the expectations, that were high.
- Simple logic. Do you think that Lidl don't want their better and more paid cyclists in the Tour de France, in the roles that the DS consider more efficient? I think obviously YES. But probably some riders don't accept to change the hierarchy. Do you think other LOGIC reason?
- Good point 1stp. You forget that Pederson has been World Champion.
- I spoke of friends in several different contexts, not everyone is very clear about the people around them really
Being friends
- He has, or has had endurence. He was world champion in 2019. That sort of form is starting to look like a long time ago now. There is till time though, he is not in his 30s yet.
- Go Bling, I hope you get plenty of great results this year!
- Senna died working, is that a preferable way to go? You do realise people die all the time for thousands of reasons often not of their own choice? If MVDP was risk averse, he’d not have taken up cycling. Every person has their own natural risk level and can only feel relaxed living it and that’s an important part of not ending up frustrated which is a bigger danger to your safety than doing what you’re comfortable doing. Millions of people practice skiing at every different level without dying. If Schumacher had skied more regularly he might not have been so naïve about the increased risks he took. By the way, it’s only because of Schumacher people even discuss skiing safety as a social subject.
- Well, maybe, we don’t know but from the interview and past behaviour it doesn’t seem like his character or what made you think of this?
- Ok, that’s a good argument if true :-)
