Yesterday's stage of the Tour du Limousin saw success from UAE Team Emirates, however not everyone was happy as inside the final kilometer Rui Costa lost the opportunity to take a meaningful stage win due to an error by a race motorbike who led him the wrong way.
The third stage of the race was decisive to the overall classification with a group of ten riders entering the final kilometers to fight for the stage win. Costa had attacked with just over two kilometers to go and went solo off the front, in what seemed to be the decisive move of the day. However shortly after in a roundabout, Costa followed the camera motorbike, which went the wrong way and led the Portuguese off course and out of stage contention.
The incident took other riders by mistake, but the veteran only realized when it was too late to regain any sort of visual contact with his former group riders. He's taken to social media to call out the UCI and calling the event "unfair" in what could be his first win since the 2020 national championships. He was additionally not given the time of the group, hence sustaining heavy losses in the fight for the yellow jersey.
At the end of the day his teammate Diego Ulissi took the win, keeping the success within the team, however Costa lost 44 seconds. The race ends today in Limoges with another hilly stage and Ulissi sits in second place within reach of the final win.
