John Degenkolb has won Paris-Roubaix back in 2015 and for several years hasn't reached the same level. It was a highly emotional day for the Team DSM rider who was in the fight for the win this afternoon, but crashed out at Carrefour de l'Arbre.
Everything had gone to perfection until 16 kilometers to go. The German rider was riding towards the head of the lead group in the sector where the race was decided, but having clashed with Mathieu van der Poel and Jasper Philipsen, he couldn't avoid to go down. Degenkolb still managed to save the day and arrive to the finish in an impressive 7th place, but heartbroken over the outcome.
