Intermarché - Wanty's
Laurenz Rex has gone wild in the streets of Bologna this Sunday. The Intermarché - Wanty rider has decided to show off his bike skills to the columns of spectators on the climb to the Madona di San Luca on stage 2 of the
Tour de France and rode no less than a one-minute wheelie up the steep climb.
The 24-year-old isn't exactly one of the Tour's headliners, he's even taking part in the Tour for the first time, but today he became one of the stage's protagonists and the reason may be one of the most unexpected. After Kévin Vauquelin's fantastic victory and the crowning of Tadej Pogacar as the new yellow jersey, there was another great moment of the day that wasn't shown live on television but which the bike cameras did not miss.
The Belgian showed all his skill on the bike by riding for more than a minute, and as if that wasn't enough, he did it precisely on the very tough climb of the Madona di San Luca, which, let's remember, had an average gradient of more than 10% for almost 2 kilometers. The 24-year old was the winner of Le Samyn earlier this year and could certainly still go on to fight for wins later in this Tour, when it reaches the hilly terrain on the second and third weeks.
At the end of the day, the Belgian rider reached the finish line in 129th position, more than 20 minutes behind the winner of the stage, in a group that included most of the sprinters in this edition of the Tour, but today he was truly one of the winners of the day and is already a serious candidate to be the protagonist of one of the most spectacular moments of the entire race. Now we just have to keep following the Belgian classics specialist.
