"This is kind of a missed opportunity" - Disappointment for Sebastian Berwick after finishing third on stage 12 of the Giro d'Italia

Israel - Premier Tech have been prominent figures at the front of the race so far at this Giro d'Italia but sadly for them, they were once again forced to settle for disappointment as Sebastian Berwick finished third on stage 12.

After an initial 30 riders had broken free from the peloton, a group that large was never going to able to coexist long enough to reach the finale. With 90km to go, Berwick was part of a group of riders that counter-attacked at the front of the race and rode clear.

When Toms Skujins upped the pace as the leaders reached the final climb, Berwick and Nico Denz fought hard to stay in contact with the Latvian and as they reached the final kilometre as a trio, it was Denz that powered to victory ahead of Skujins to second with Berwick forced to settle for third.

"This is kind of a missed opportunity," the Australian said in his post-stage interview, revealing his disappointment. "But those other two guys were stronger. I did my best and I kept fighting for my chance, so that's great."
