When
Toms Skujins upped the pace as the leaders reached the final climb, Berwick and
Nico Denz fought hard to stay in contact with the Latvian and as they reached the final kilometre as a trio, it was Denz that powered to victory ahead of Skujins to second with Berwick forced to settle for third.
"This is kind of a missed opportunity," the Australian said in his post-stage interview, revealing his disappointment. "But those other two guys were stronger. I did my best and I kept fighting for my chance, so that's great."
