Thijs Zonneveld evades severe injuries in Unound Gravel crash: "Not months of rehabilitation, but a few weeks of recovery"

BEAT cyclist and journalist Thijs Zonneveld took on the challenging Unbound Gravel on Saturday but not much came of it, as the 42-year old crashed hard and concluded his race in hospital with knee injury.

"I fell hard over the head on a descent. On top of the stones," the journalist reported immediately from America. “My knee is close to tearing. It's going to need stitches anyway. I hope my kneecap isn't broken."

Zonneveld quickly travelled back to Netherlands to undergo thorough examination and luckily - his state was better than it seemed. "The best result of the week – for me – comes from Breda. My knee has received a blow and there are bruises and damage here and there, but my patella is still intact."

"Not months of rehabilitation, but a few weeks of recovery," he says via Twitter. "I'm so glad I didn't let them run wild in my knee in America."
