The young cyclocross rider is perhaps best known as the son of the legendary Sven Nys, but in the last few years Thibau Nys has been putting in impressive performances that not only promise to see one of the top riders in the discipline in the coming years, but also a possible road rider as he gets the chance to ride with the World Tour team Trek-Segafredo.
Sven Nys was cyclocross World champion twice and is a five-time winner of the World cup. After retiring in the 2015-2016 season, his son Thibau soon became a target of national media after displaying similar abilities on the bike. Thibau Nys is 19 years old and raced his second season as an under-23 rider this year, taking three wins despite a crash-marred winter. He finished third in an all-Belgian World championships in Fayetteville and finished third in the Elite ranks at the closing race of the season in Oostmalle.
As part of the Trek - Baloise Lions team, Nys already has direct contacts with the team which he will be taking part of. Het Nieuwsblad reported that he will be joining the team in the 1st of August as a stagiaire, and is being considered to make a step to the team full-time in 2023.
