"They must demonstrate what caused the cardiac arrest" - Jumbo-Visma provide update on Nathan van Hooydonck's health situation

Nathan van Hooydonck is now in stable condition and recovering from the tragic accident that has happened earlier this week. Asked at the Vuelta a Espana, the team provided a small update on the Belgian rider's condition.

"I don't really have many more news. They are conducting investigations. They must demonstrate what caused the cardiac arrest," team DS Frans Maassen told Het Laatste Nieuws. "Considering the circumstances, he's doing pretty well. Of course, what has happened is very intense."

Van Hooydonck at the time suffered a heart attack whilst driving his car, which then led to an accident involving several vehicles. He was resuscitated on scene and taken to the hospital where he was put in an artificial coma. Luckily it was a story that did not end with the worst possible scenario, in the hours that followed the Jumbo-Visma rider woke up and has since been able to resume communications, without major injuries.
