Leading Bahrain - Victorious in the absence of Matej Mohoric, Fred Wright put in his best-ever Paris-Roubaix performance, narrowly missing out on the top-10 in 12th place.
“It was nice to ride the final at this race which I absolutely love," reflected the British National Champion post-race. Although with this being the fastest edition of Paris-Roubaix in history, it's fair to say Wright didn't exact enjoy his day on the French cobbles. "That was horrible; the hardest race of my life."
"I’m a bit gutted I didn’t get top ten, but I feel like I showed today I had the legs that maybe have been missing thus far in the classics season," the 24-year-old continues. "I’m happy to have really played a role in the race … and what a race it was.“
With their expected leader, Matej Mohoric ruled out after a crash at the Tour of Flanders, Wright's performance and high placing was more than enough to keep the team happy. "We can be pretty happy with our day to be honest. The strategy was right, and Fred was really strong; he deserved a top result and he got one," assesses Sports Director Michal Golaś. "Not only Fred but Dusan Rajovic too getting in the breakaway; we knew the race would explode early and it did. We were there at all the key moments all day."
