UAE Team Emirates has confirmed their lineup for Il Lombardia, the final monument of the season, and this will be Tadej Pogacar's final race of the season. The Slovenian looks to win the Italian monument for the fourth consecutive time and it is very hard to see him not take the title again in 2024.
After winning the World Championships with an impressive long-range solo attack, Pogacar made his debut in the rainbow jersey at the Giro dell'Emilia where he was literally unmatched by anyone, launching the winning attack right at the entrance of the final circuit and taking minutes over the competition. Although the weather has made it very difficult for some of his rivals over the past few days, it is safe to say that no-one is entering Lombardia with the same confidence as him.
“The first race in the rainbow colours was something special. Giro Dell’Emilia was always a race that got away from me but I was delighted to be able to take the win there finally last weekend," Pogacar said in a press release." The shape is still very good and I want to give it one last push now for Lombardía. It’s been the perfect season for us this year. All the team we worked really hard and things really clicked for us. I’ll definitely look back on this year as a really special time. But it’s not over yet and we want to finish it off well and with a strong result in my last race of the season in Lombardia.”
In traditional style, the team brings in a luxurious lineup. Adam Yates, Pavel Sivakov and Rafal Majka will certainly be used to make the race very hard on the long ascents where Pogacar can make the difference; whilst the other three riders (Marc Hirschi, Jan Christen and Finn Fisher-Black) could all also realistically race for their own result if given the freedom.
