That Turin is a city of sport, and especially cycling, is no secret. With all three Grand Tours set to take off from the region before the end of this year (the Grande Partenza of the 2025 Vuelta a Espana is scheduled to start in Torino), the city hungers for even more.
In particular the sight is set on the 2031 World Cycling Championships, the so-called "Super Championships" that take place each four years with first edition taking place in Glasgow 2023. The race could be centered around the Basilica of Superga, visiting key areas of the city of Turin.
The President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio and the Turin Mayor Stefano Lo Russo send a clear message about their commitment to the sport: "Cycling is one of the sports with the highest economic returns, and we want to continue on this path."
"We have experienced incredible emotions with the post-Covid Giro, with the Tour and now with the Vuelta. But we are not satisfied yet: we want the World Championships," Cirio told Corriere della Sera.
