The Israel - Premier Tech leader had already indicated before the race that he had been suffering with a stomach bug. However, eyeing his preparation to the spring classics, he set foot on the startline yesterday in Ubrique, where he finished in the 37th spot in the middle of the peloton.

This morning however the team has announced on Twitter that the Canadian would not be at the start of stage two as the symptoms flared up. This comes after Jakob Fuglsang has been put into isolation after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Israeli team is at the start of the second day of racing into Alcalá La Real today with Simon Clarke as their sole leader. The Australian was a last-minute signing for the team and has so far impressed on the Mallorca classics. Here in Andalucia he finds a set of stages that suit him, and the team will be eyeing to set him up for a possible win whilst at the same time giving some racing kilometers to Sep Vanmarcke and Guillaume Boivin who will be targeting the cobbled classics later this spring.
