The Giro d'Italia 2024 begins to take some form. Gazzetta dello Sport are highly anticipating the Corsa Rosa and although we are still in the off-season, some teams begin to discuss plans and there are reports of two riders set to focus on the Giro.
One is Nairo Quintana. Movistar Team have signed the Colombian after a year off, due to a tramadol penalization that dates back to the Tour de France. The Colombian comes in without little pressure from the team, but due to his history there will be expectations, and he is said to be aiming at the Giro, whilst perhaps having a support role in mind for Enric Mas at the Tour de France or Vuelta a Espana.
The second figure is Simon Yates. The Briton has said in the past that he vastly preferred the Giro to the Tour, but in 2023 he made a change in his calendar to fit in the Grand Boucle. It ended up being Yates' best season in years as he achieved great form during the spring, and then had a spotless Tour de France where he rode to a career-best fourth place.
The report mentions Tadej Pogacar and Geraint Thomas but they come as speculation, and not as intel. Weeks ago the Italian news outlet reported that Wout van Aert would race the Giro d'Italia which has in the meantime fueled a sea of rumours and opinions.
