After being forced to miss the Giro dell'Emilia because of cough, Robert Gesink's season has now been brought to an end as the cough is diagnosed as bronchitis.
"Off-season 2023 started a bit earlier than expected!" Gesink wrote on his official Instagram account, announcing his absence from Jumbo-Visma's Il Lombardia lineup. "A nasty cough turned out to be bronchitis and I missed a lot of riding and training to be ready for Il Lombardia."
With this now bringing an end to Gesink's 2023 campaign, the Jumbo-Visma rider's final race turned out to be a very successful one as he was a key component in the team's domination of the Vuelta a Espana where Sepp Kuss, Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic locked out the podium.
"Proud of the last race of ‘23!" Gesink concludes. "Time to enjoy family time and some casual riding."
