In statements collected by the colleagues of Ciclismo Colombiano, the Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz has confirmed the Grand Tour that he will race in 2023, the year of his debut with his new squad, EF Education-EasyPost.
After a spectacular 2022, in which he was close to winning the Giro d'Italia - where he finished second - and in the Vuelta a España he was able to win three stages and the KOM classification, he will face his first race outside of INEOS Grenadiers with a clear objective: the Tour de France.
Thus, taking into account that a few days ago he declared that he was going to race two grand tours in 2023 and that the Giro is full of kilometers against the clock, something that does not favor him at all, it is normal for the Tour to be on the calendar
What remains to be seen is if he is going to fight for the general classification, as in the last Giro, or for stages and secondary classifications, as in the last Vuelta - as Jonathan Vaughters recently hinted. There will be a lot of work over the American team's management over the rest of the winter to decide on the best approach for their new star signing.
