The news is finally out and World Champion Remco Evenepoel has confirmed them himself. The World Champion will race the Giro d'Italia in 2023 and that will be his main goal when it comes to the stage-races.
"I'm in Italy for the moment to do some recons," he said in a video shared by the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team, followed by the confirmation that he will ride the Corsa Rosa in 2023. The rumours had been piling up, and Jan Hirt had talked about the plan in a recent interview, but the team had kept itself private ahead of it's presentation on the 6th of January where the plans were set to be revealed. However, with Evenepoel currently in Italy, it has sparked a surprise announcement.
"It will be a special edition as I will be wearing my rainbow jersey, I'm really looking forward," he continued. He's currently in the Amalfi Coast, where the race will pass in it's sixth stage which has it's start and finish in Napoli, a hilly day that should however suit the sprinters.
Together with Evenepoel, the likes of Geraint Thomas, João Almeida, Jack Haig and Gino Mäder have already heavily hinted at their presence in the Italian Grand Tour, however more names are to be revealed soon.
