The Tour de l'Ain is a notable event in France's vibrant domestic cycling calendar. Held in the picturesque Jura mountain range, just outside the Alps, the race spans from the 9th to the 11th of September.
The three-day race begins with an opportunity for the sprinters to thrive. However, the finale in Val-Revermont is not easy as it features several little hilltops, none too hard to cause chaos in the peloton however. The following two stages are very similar where both puncheurs and climbers have the opportunity to fight for the overall classification.
Stage two will see four categorized climbs. Whilst it avoids the high mountains, the sequence of ascents will be complicated, with the Col des Portes (8.3Km at 6.5%) being the hardest test of the day where the main attacks should come. As for stage three it features the traditional finale in Lélex, after 3500 meters of climbing in only 131 kilometers. The GC will be wrapped at the end of the day, with the double ascent of the Col de Menthières (9.2Km at 6.3%) the main feature, to be ridden twice.
