Bryan Coquard's 2025
Tour de France is over, although the
Cofidis sprinter has completed his stage 13 time trial after breaking a finger in his right hand in a freak accident on stage 12.
Having got himself into the breakaway to try and get up ahead of the peloton before the climbs, disaster struck Coquard as he reached out for a musette in one of the feed zones. Somewhat curiously, Coquard managed to break his right ring finger in the process, and whilst the incident wasn't picked up by TV cameras, images of the Frenchman visibly pained at the roadside were shown soon after.
To his credit, the Cofidis sprinter completed the brutal stage, finishing atop Hautacam inside time limit on stage 12. Coquard has also turned up for the stage 13 time trial too, completing one last day at the Tour before he heads for surgery on his broken bones.
"We tried to immobilise it as much as possible so that it would work for today. It's a climb, so there's not too much risk," a visibly bandaged Coquard told France Télévisions ahead of the time trial on Friday. "It will certainly be my last stand. We had a lot of discussions with the surgeon. I want to race today, but for safety reasons, for the whole peloton and the rest of the race, I will certainly not be able to take the start tomorrow."
