Peter Sagan has shown everyone he is ready for
Tour de France by winning Slovakian National Championship for the eighth time. Sagan finished ahead of Lukáš Kubiš while Matúš Štoček came third - albeit in the middle of the field alongside the Czech riders.
He's had a difficult start to the season. In the last eighteen months, he has tested positive for COVID-19 three times, he was recently infected at the Tour de Suisse but bounced back to take a win at the
national championships. He has been confirmed to be leading
TotalEnergies at the Tour de France where he will be targeting stage wins and the points classification.
After his win at nationals he told reporters: "This race means a lot to me, especially with this year's course which was very demanding, Thank you to the Slovak public who encouraged me throughout the day. I am now impatiently awaiting the start of the Tour de France, I'm so happy with my victory today."
"No matter how many times I have climbed onto the top step of the podium, I still feel the same pride and joy as when I won my first title," he said. This was his eighth title, and the 12th consecutive title within the Sagan family.
