Peter Sagan has endured a bad start to the season, with illnesses hindering him from January onwards. He didn't manage to get the form that he ambitioned, as he struggled through many races this spring, and missing out on the cobbled monuments in order to recover, and focus on the coming goals.
"I am very happy that I can start training again. I would like to thank the entire team at TotalEnergies for their support during this difficult time. Especially Jean-René Bernaudeau, team doctor Louis Noisette and my coach Jens van Beylen," Sagan said. He had been resting for the last few weeks, after Tirreno-Adriatico he - like much of the peloton - got ill once again and lacked the form to race the Tour des Flandres and Paris-Roubaix competitively for TotalEnergies.
The team has now announced that he's got the green light to restart training, with the focus on the Tour de France and his traditional run-up race in the Tour de Suisse. The Slovakian national champion hasn't been in competition since the Circuit Cycliste Sarthe, and should make his return in the Swiss race.
It is said that he will go on an altitude camp in Utah, United States, in preparation for his return to racing. Within the French team there are big expectations on his performance in the coming summer, as he will be a key figure in the team's performance and image in the race that has seen him grow into a superstar.
