Michael Morkov to join Mark Cavendish at Giro d'Italia

Quick-Step Alpa Vinyl Team are yet to announce their lineup for the upcoming Giro d'Italia, however it is now certain that the team will be led by the sprinter-focused side, with Mark Cavendish and Michael Morkov teaming up to eye wins in the bunch sprints.

Morkov told in the Danish podcast Forhjulsir that he is a last-minute addition to the Giro d'Italia team, after injuries and illnesses have affected several of the riders who were targeting the Italian race. He indicated that he will not be finishing the race - surely with the intent of preparing for the Tour de France later this summer - however he will be a crucial part of the Quick-Step leadout, and specifically for Mark Cavendish's ambitions.

The Belgian team has not yet officially confirmed their lineup, but it is said to be confirmed that Cavendish has been selected, and is unlikely to be racing the Tour de France this summer. He will however have some opportunities to extend his win tally at the Giro d'Italia, and with the support of Morkov and Davide Ballerini - alongside several other riders who will be helping - the chances are high that the Manxman can take his fourth win of the season in Italy.
