The UCI has officially confirmed the second spot for Slovakia in the road race of the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow. Thus, Peter Sagan will not be alone on Scottish soil.
Alongside him, the revelation of Slovak cycling, Matúš Štoček, has also been selected to compete in the elite category. The Slovak Cycling Association (SZC) made the official announcement through a press release, in which they expressed their gratitude to the UCI for having heeded their request to secure a place for the Slovak champion.
Slovak Cycling Union President Peter Privara highlighted the excellent form Matúš Štoček has shown during the current season and how his results have made him worthy of competing in the prestigious elite World Cup race. "Matúš Štoček is showing an exceptional level this season and definitely deserves this place with his impressive results," Privara stated in the press release.
Sagan himself will be retiring from road cycling at the end of this season, the three-time winner - back in 2015, 2016 and 2017 - has a course well suited to his characteristics but won't be among the favourites to take the rainbow jersey.
