Time trial talent Joshua Tarling might make his debut with elites this year at the World Championships time trial. The 19-year old INEOS Grenadiers rider is on the longlist for the British selection for Glasgow, while he could also participate in the U23 event for years to come. His father Michael Tarling reports this on Twitter.
"Josh is on the longlist for the individual time trial at the World Championships for the elites, but also on the provisional list for the time trial and the road race for the U23," confirms his father Michael. "Needless to say he would like to ride the elite time trial, but it's up to the British Cycling national coach."
This spring, Tarling was already second in the time trial of the Étoile de Bessèges, behind Mads Pedersen, and at the end of June he conquered the elite British time trial title in a dominant fashion. Earlier this week he surprised by finishing just eight seconds behind two-time world champion Filippo Ganna in a 32-kilometer time trial in the Tour de Wallonie. That shows that Tarling is on top form ahead of Glasgow.
