Tobias Foss was set to ride the Giro d'Italia in support of Primoz Roglic but was sidelined last-minute after getting Covid-19. He hasn't raced since, but takes on the final step preparing for the World Championships at the Vuelta a Espana.
“The big goal is to prepare for the World Championships here. It has taken a long time to come back from corona. Only after a month did I feel fit again," Foss admits in an interview with Wielerflits. "After that I trained for a few weeks on average. Since a few weeks I feel really good about training again.”
The third stage of the Tour de Romandie in late April was his last race day. He's taken quite a lot of time to train back into form and altitude training in July, preparing for what may be the biggest goal of his season. “I don't have to be at my best here in Poland. That should be at the World Championship. But of course, there are some nice climbing stages in between and the general classification is in the back of my mind."
Carrying the rainbow stripes in the time-trial, he would like to defend his title. He hasn't won with the jersey but has one more opportunity in the time-trial the riders will face in Pologne, but he isn't overly positive in being able to succeed in Glasgow only in two weeks. "I also feel confident when I'm on the time trial bike. Of course, but my career doesn't stop here. I'm going to enjoy it. And the goal is to get my jersey back one day. Or just defend.”
