Wout van Aert had and has as perhaps his main goal of the summer the World Championships. The course in Glasgow will suit him quite well, and after abandoning the Tour de France for the birth of his son, he continues his preparation towards the big race.
"Everything is under control for now. The last few days have been hectic, but I think I'm still on track for the World Championships. Of course, I still don't have the optimal form that I want to have. as a cyclist. But I hope it will be right before the Worlds," van Aert told Sporza after winning the post-Tour de France criterium in Herentals.
The Belgian has taken a little bit of rest but this week is again putting in the hard work in preparation for Glasgow, which will take place in the matter of roughly a week. Next week will be time to rest and make sure he's fresh, but he says that this week sees the final training days ahead of what can be a maiden world title on the road.
"I trained well this week and I plan to do it in the next few days. And next week I will rest and prepare for these World Championships. It's the same for everyone. Those who come from the Tour must stay focused and gain freshness. The state of form is what it is, and it is very good."
