Pelayo Sánchez, after winning his first victory with Movistar Team in the Trofeo Pollença: "Aranburu's fall made us rethink the race"

In the fourth of the classics of the Challenge Mallorca, the Pollença Trophy, Movistar Team's first victory of the 2024 season came, and at the same time the first of the great protagonist of the same, Pelayo Sánchez, wearing the colors of his new team after leaving Burgos-BH.

In fact, the great asset of the day for Movistar was Alex Aranburu. However, a fall caused him to be out of the fight for victory, and that's where Pelayo came into the picture and was outstanding on the day to achieve his second professional victory after the stage win in the Vuelta a Asturias 2023.

In his statements after the race, Pelayo Sánchez began by thanking his new team for their confidence and dedicating the victory to them. Afterwards, he explained that Movistar Team's entire plan was modified by the aforementioned crash of Aranburu: "A very nice victory. I would like to dedicate the victory to the whole team. I'm very happy. It's true that I came from the first three days of competition (of the Challenge Mallorca, ed.), which usually costs me, not with the best legs, but well, I was helping my teammates".

"Unfortunately today Alex [Aranburu], who was our trump card, had a mishap that I hope he's okay, and from there we had to rethink the race with those of us who were there and play our card. It was a very crazy race solution. Everyone was proposing something. I knew I had to stay calm, that I could do well at the end. That's what I did and I was able to raise my arms," concluded the 23-year-old Spaniard.
