Jonas Vingegaard should be able to win the upcoming Vuelta a Espana. Normally, the Dane should be a level above the rest of competitors for the Spanish Grand Tour, but things can develop in many directions over the course of three weeks and the support of his Team Visma | Lease a Bike team mates could be just as a important as Vingegaard's own legs.
"His chances are really good. In the last six Grand Tours that Jonas has ridden, only Pogacar has been able to really threaten him. That is, if we take away the Vuelta, where he gave the victory to Sepp Kuss," says TV 2 Sports cycling expert Christian Moberg.

"It looks like a really strong team with many repeats from the Tour de France team. Dylan van Barle is back, and unlike the Tour, there is no Wout van Aert, which must mean that it is all about Vingegaard. They also have a strong team for the mountains with Ben Tullet, Wilco Keldermann, Sepp Kuss and Jorgensen. And then there's Van Baale, Jorgensen and Zingle for the flatter stages."
Cycling expert Emil Axelgaard doesn't sound as optimistic when analyzing the team around Vingegaard. Matteo Jorgenson could normally ride a GC himself, but it remains to be seen whether he's recovered from his lackluster Tour. "This is the first time Jorgenson has raced two Grand Tours in a row, and it is therefore uncertain whether he can find the level he needs to compete in the general classification."
A key role in the mountains could be placed on the shoulders of Ben Tulett. The 23-year-old deserved a Grand Tour spot after a successful season. This will be only his second three-week race since the 2022 Giro. "Tulett has been better than ever this year, but he still needs to perform in a Grand Tour."
"Campenaerts was better than ever in the Tour, but when he rode the Vuelta last year with the Tour in his legs, he was quite tired and anonymous. Kelderman has not been at his former strength this year either. On the other hand, Kuss is almost always best when he rides the Vuelta with the Tour in his legs," notes Axelgaard.
