The
Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge sets off today, one of the most exciting one-day races of the year which would see the peloton climb up the Geant de Provence, however it won't be quite what was expected as strong wind cut the route's hardest part.
As it's known the climb is very exposed, but most likely it is the lack of safety conditions in it's descent which have forced the organizers to cut the day short. It will now be only 99 kilometers long, and will miss the large descent and the hardest and final climb to Mont Ventoux. The race will still end at it's summit, however atop the first ascent which is significantly easier - 24 kilometers at 5%.
We made this decision to guarantee the safety of the riders, our priority," race organizer Nicolas Garcera said this morning. "We are obviously a little disappointed not to offer the course initially planned as an organizer, but this decision is the wisest."
