Is Mikel Landa on his way to Soudal - Quick-Step? Team manager Patrick Lefevere has had discussions with the management of the 33-year old climber, Het Laatste Nieuws reports.
Landa is still racing for Bahrain Victorious, but his contract with his current employer is ending and Lefevere would be angling for the services of the experienced rider. Lefevere said in Het Laatste Nieuws last week that he was working on a rider from the top 15 of the Tour de France. Louis Meintjes and Mikel Landa, who were in the top 15 at the time, are the only riders with an expiring contract.
Landa started his professional cycling career in 2011 with Euskaltel-Euskadi and is now in his thirteenth season as a professional cyclist. The Spaniard made his final breakthrough in 2015 with a third place in the Giro d'Italia and in recent years as a classification rider has been good for several short classifications in the grand tours. For example, he finished third in Giro d'Italia last year, while in 2017 and 2020 he was fourth at Tour de France.
