SD Worx was the big winner of the
Tour de France Femmes with four stage victories, the green jersey and the yellow jersey. Despite all the success, cycling analyst
Michel Wuyts also saw the necessary missed opportunities.
"With a little more will from her teammates, she could have won three to four stages," Wuyts starts critically in the podcast Wuyts & Vlaeminck of Het Laatste Nieuws. "What she has achieved, she has done completely alone," he continues. In addition to winning the opening stage, Kopecky also took the green jersey and pulled off a thunderous stunt by finishing second in the final standings.
"I could not have predicted a second place, but a top ten place was realistic given her high level of form," says Wuyts about Kopecky's astonishing result. The performance of the Flemish came out of the blue. "I don't think she had tried or thought of it, and the opportunity never presented itself."
Kopecky showed himself to be a true all-rounder and the Belgians soon think of another all-rounder: Wout van Aert. "The comparison is often made with Van Aert, and this was also Van Aerts. She can sprint, now also time trial and climb a lot faster. That is what Wout van Aert has taught us over the past three to four years," Wuyts finds the comparison apt.
