After Vuelta a San Juan and UAE Tour things went wrong for Antwan Tolhoek. Due to a tendinitis in his knee, he was sidelined for months. In the Dauphiné he was able to start again, but suffered a setback in the opening stage. A new period of rest and training followed, so that he can now resume the race in the Tour of Poland.
"It took a long time to get back into competition," the Lidl-Trek climber admits in an interview with WielerFlits. "But it felt good again, as usual. I am very happy to be back."
"I can't describe it in short, but it was not a fun period," Tolhoek says. "But in the end I am happy that there is finally light at the end of the tunnel and that I am back in the peloton and with the team."
A lingering injury and an expiring contract, that was not a nice combination in recent months. "When I had problems with my knee, it played something in my head. But now that I am fit again, that has been pushed into the background, and I can cycle again and show what I have in store."
