La Route d'Occitanie saw
Michael Valgren show glimpses of good form, something he has struggled with this season, but the run didn't last long as the Dane suffered a bad crash in the final stage of the race which will see him out of competition for an extended period of time.
The team reported that Valgren had suffered a fracture in the pelvis, aswell as a dislocated hip and a possible knee injury after the stage. Reports indicate that the Dane crashed down a ravine whilst descending, and Israel - Premier Tech rider Taj Jones stopped and brought the accident into attention of the race convoy.
Valgren later explained on Instagram that the crash was "my own fault". He continued: "I wanted to show myself before the Tour after my Corona and went a bit over the limit on a downhill." He had finished the second stage in second place, however will now have to be in the sidelines as he looks to recover from his injuries in time to race in the final months of the season.
