At Jumbo-Visma they have almost won their second Tour de France in a row. Jonas Vingegaard dominates the peloton, but sporting director Merijn Zeeman wants to disregard any thoughts of long-running dominance
"On the one hand, the current lead is very nice, but on the other hand, it should not put you to sleep. You start at zero every year and how things went this year is no guarantee for the coming years. In any case, Jonas has shown that last year was not a fluke and that he has very special qualities. Hopefully he can show it for years to come," Zeeman tells Sporza.
In addition to Tadej Pogacar, Belgian fans also point to Remco Evenepoel, who will normally make his Tour debut in 2024. "That's great, I'm very curious how he will do that and what exactly his specific qualities are, also in the Tour," Zeeman laughs.
It should be clear: Evenepoel is taken seriously, but he should first ride his first Tour de France. "He is a very attractive rider and it would be nice to compete with him. We also have to be careful with statements that someone will dominate in the coming years, because that's not how our sport works. So you certainly won't hear that from us."
