Jumbo-Visma had a final day to finish the task. Sepp Kuss crashed out of GC contention on the final day of competitive racing at the
Tour de France, but
Jonas Vingegaard remained upright and survived all attacks to keep the yellow jersey secure on his shoulders.
"I enjoyed this day, but I did that every day. I felt good on the bike and it was another good fight," Vingegaard said in a post-race interview. "Obviously we still have a ride to go, so we have to be careful and don't do anything stupid. However, it's great to take my second Tour win, I can't believe it. It was a crazy fight in these three weeks, but I think it has been a nice race to watch".
On the Col de Platzerwasel, Vingegaard had already made it safely, and with over seven minutes to spare, victory was inevitable. However he wanted a stage win in yellow outside of the time-trial. He had to respond to an attack from Tadej Pogacar back at his best level, and then left his cards for a sprint. Chances were low but he tried to still anticipate it, eventually not having the legs but crossing the line to meet his family in a glorious feeling of a second Tour de France win which he will confirm tomorrow.
"It was so beautiful for us, I appreciate the battle with Tadej. He's a great guy, hopefully we can have more of these fights," the Dane admits. "I couldn't have done this without my team, they were there for me every day for the past three weeks. I am happy for everyone, Paris will be very beautiful. We had a plan and it was executed perfectly every day. I owe this victory to them."
