In this article, you will find frequent updates on some of the events that happen throughout the 2024 Tour de Romandie. In the medical report we gather the list of riders that abandon the race as well as information from the race's official press releases.
Prologue
Nothing to note.
Stage 1
Astana have lost it's leader today. Alexey Lutsenko is the main rider to have abandoned the race this afternoon; he and teammate Igor Chzhan have abandoned the race due to illness. Mattia Cattaneo and Jan Stöckli of Team Corratec - Vini Fantini have also abandoned the race.
Stage 2
After losing two riders the previous day, Astana lost another rider before the start of the stage in Santiago Umba with infectious bronchial asthma. During the day, four riders abandoned and the cold conditions influenced this. Andrey Amador, Maikel Zijlaard, Marco Murgano and Matteo Constant all failed to reach the finale of the stage. It is not known the reason behind any of these DNF's.
Stage 3
Despite being a time-trial, it did not come without victims on the day. Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team's Xabier Mikel Azparren suffered a crash and abandoned the race. Furthermore, Arkéa - B&B Hotels' Alan Riou was a DNS on the day.
Stage 4
BORA - hansgrohe's Patrick Gamper did not start the day. But afterwards, the mountains and cold conditions saw six riders abandon: Xandro Meurisse and Stan van Tricht (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Jordan Labrosse (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), Daniil Marukhin (Astana Qazaqstan Team), Rune Herregodts (Intermarché-Wanty) and Sylvain Moniquet (Lotto Dstny). Only Marukhin's withdraw was justified, as a respiratory viral infection - just as three other teammates did, in the previous days.
Stage 5
After a tough and fast day in the mountains and with the finish in sight, the cold and rainy final day saw several riders never making it to the finish. 8 did not start: Koen Bouwman; Eddie Dunbar; Damiano Caruso; Cyril Barthe; Gijs Leemreize; Pavel Bittner; Emils Liepins and Niklas Markl. 9 others did not finish the stage: Brandon McNulty; Senne Leysin; Jesús David Peña; Luke Plapp; Nolann Mahoudo; Sean Flynn; Thomas de Gendt; Matteo Amella and Antoine Debons.
