In a chaotic and frantic final stage of the 2024 Tour de Romandie, the BORA - hansgrohe duo of Florian Lipowitz and Aleksandr Vlasov were bright and attacking but ultimately couldn't unseat Carlos Rodriguez from the top of the general classification.
"I think it was a good week for the team with 2nd and 3rd place in the general classification," Vlasov reflects post-stage in conversation with the official website of the BORA - hansgrohe team. "It was also a really good team performance yesterday in the queen's stage. For me it was a nice race and I'm happy with my form. Lipo showed that he's super strong and I wish him good luck for his first Giro."
Whilst Vlasov's general classification challenge, the performance of Lipowitz was a real breakthrough. As Vlasov mentioned, it's the perfect time for such a showing too with the 23-year-old German set for his Grand Tour debut at the upcoming Giro d'Italia.
"I'm really happy with the result. Before the race, I never thought I would be able to ride up front here," Lipowitz reflects. "I came here with mixed feelings because I haven't had that many race days yet and I came straight from an altitude training camp. I wasn't sure what my form would be. To be able to ride up front gives me a lot of confidence."
