Matteo Trentin believes his UAE Team Emirates teammate Tadej Pogacar will return to the Tour of Flanders in 2023 after lighting up the 106th edition of the race in April of this year.
Despite eventually finishing in 4th position, Pogacar was at the forefront of everything good in the race and as Trentin says “He had a lot of fun there. I wouldn't be surprised if he tries again in 2023." If Pogacar does return there's no doubt he'll go straight into the role of one of the race favourites.
After a chaotic final sprint in Oudenaarde, Pogacar was just edged out of the win by Mathieu van der Poel. When discussing the kind of human being Pogacar is and how he reacts to setbacks, Trentin was full of praise "He loves to be a rider and shines when he wins, but especially when he loses" he said. "From a sporting point of view, it's amazing how eager he is to compete with everything, and that he only gets stronger as the race gets tougher."
