It is not everyday that we see Tadej Pogacar getting dropped. In fact that may have only happened 1 time in the entire 2025 Tour de France, right on it's final climb. The yellow jersey provided immense spectacle on the final stage of the Grand Boucle, but was dropped by Wout van Aert on the Côte de la Butte Montmartre.
It was a day of much rain, which saw the GC times neutralized at the entrance of the final circuit. This means that most riders decided to take it easy and not risk ending their race with a crash, but a few dozen still gave it a shot.
Amongst those was Pogacar, who stirred things up in the first two ascents of the cobbled hilltop that was placed 6 kilometers away from the finish line at the Champs-Élysées. In the first two laps of the circuit there was some strong pace - which combined with the technical and wet circuit, created plenty splits.
But it was on the final ascent that the stage would be decided. From the front, Pogacar put in a seated attack, but this time he was not the strongest on course. Wout van Aert, with 6 kilometers to go, delivered the attack of a race to drop the yellow jersey in the cobbled climb that marked the 2024 Olympic Games course. You can see the attack in the video below:
