Mathieu van der Poel will be beginning his latest quest for Olympic Gold this coming weekend, when on Saturday, August 3rd, the world champion takes to the roads of Paris for the men's elite road race.
Whilst the 2024 Paris Olympic Games are well underway, with a number of those with gold medal dreams already in the Olympic Village, Van der Poel is only now travelling to the French capital. As spotted in a post on the Dutchman's official Instagram account, the Alpecin-Deceuninck star is making the journey across the border in style!
With one of Van der Poel's sponsorships coming from the world renowned supercar manufacturer Lamborghini, the 29-year-old made perfect use of his relation to the Italian car powerhouse by taking to the roads to Paris in a stunningly slick Lamborghini, personalised number plate and all.
In terms of his chances in this Saturday's road race, according to the Dutch national coach at least, things are looking positive for Van der Poel. "As always, it is very short and sweet. He already sent a thumbs up and fortunately no thumbs down. He indicates that he feels good and is looking forward to the Olympic Games," Koos Moerenhout told Wielerflits.
