Ivan Sosa's time with Movistar Team is very close to an end. The 26-year-old Colombian rider will leave Spanish based outfit at the end of the season and is reportedly already close to securing a move to another World Tour team in the cycling market.
According to journalist Daniel Benson, interest in Sosa is growing, and EF Education-EasyPost is one of the best-positioned teams. The American based team wants the Colombian to be part of its squad from the start of the 2025 season. Sosa's departure from Movistar Team is not wholly surprising. The rider joined the Spanish team in 2022, and since that same season he has not achieved any notable results. His last victories came that same year, both in the form of wins at the Vuelta a Asturias and the Tour de Langkawi.
Moreover, the last grand tour in which Movistar Team trusted him to be part of its lineup was the Giro d'Italia 2022. Since then he has not raced any of the world's major cycling races. With his departure, the climber wants to gain prominence in what would be the third WorldTour team of his career, after Sky/INEOS and Movistar Team itself.
As mentioned earlier, Sosa's rumoured new suitors are EF Education-EasyPost. EF are in a comfortable position in terms of relegation in the UCI Ranking, and they a team where opportunities can come more numerous than in Movistar Team. It is a team that, as of today, is totally focused on one-day and stage victories, and leaves aspirations for the general classifications completely aside. In this context, Ivan Sosa can find a new home there where he can once again know what it means to raise his arms in a cycling race more than 3 years later (if he doesn't win until 2025, which seems clear).
