Former Italian cycling superstar Mario Cipollini is facing the possibility of two and a half years prison time due to accounts of assaulting, threatening and stalking his ex-wife and her new partner.
The Italian is not shy of controversies, having not only spent his racing career but his post-professional years as a very controversial and criticized figure. In this instance, the accusations of domestic abuse may earn him several years in prison, due to events that have taken place between 2016 and 2017.
Although the case is not yet closed, with a possibility of defense, the case does not look favourable to the 55-year old, who is one of cycling's most successful ever sprinters with a total of 57 wins in Grand Tours alone.
