Gino Mäder has been confirmed to be out of the
Tour de France, after a very harsh run-up to the race which has seen him suffer from Covid-19, and ultimately give up on the idea of making his debut on the Grand Boucle.
The news were reported by local news outlet 'SRF', who have informed of the decision. Mäder finished fifth and won the youth classification at last year's Vuelta a España, aswell as winning a stage at the Giro d'Italia and Tour de Suisse.

In 2022 he had built his season around the Tour de France. Although relatively under the radar, he managed to ride to a second place at the Tour de Romandie, but had a slow approach to the Tour. The Tour de Suisse was to be his preparation race towards the Tour, but after showing signs of struggling with the heat, he's abandoned the race - as did several other teammates - with Covid-19.
Due the close proximity to the Tour and the lack of good form, Mäder has hence been excluded. The team will be led by Jack Haig and Damiano Caruso who will be seeking a high overall classification, whilst the likes of Matej Mohoric and Dylan Teuns will be chasing stages throughout the three weeks.
