Lotte Kopecky, the two-time World Champion, capped off her
incredible 2024 season with a thrilling victory at the
Simac Ladies Tour. The
28-year-old Belgian, riding for Team SD Worx-Protime, had to dig deep to beat
Silke Smulders in the final meters of the race, with the help of a superb
lead-out from Lorena Wiebes.
Reflecting on the tight finish,
Kopecky said to
In De
Leiderstrui: “I think I'll win this round in the last centimetre. The plan
was to sprint and take the bonuses, but that was very close. Silke was very
strong. The entire team had to ride themselves to the bone to close the gap.”
Kopecky's victory came just one day after a crash on
Saturday left her with a cut on her shoulder, leading some to question whether
she would be able to start the final stage on Sunday. However, she surprised
everyone by lining up and delivering a winning performance.
“This morning, I rode a bit loose and that felt okay. There
was no reason not to start today,” Kopecky explained. “This final victory is a
nice addition to the list of a fantastic season. It is nice to be able to end
the road season like this.”
Kopecky’s triumph at the Simac Ladies Tour adds yet another
achievement to her already stellar 2024 campaign, underscoring her strength and
resilience as she closes out the season on a high note.
