What a stage, what a day @LeTourFemmes 😍🎉 Go #InsideOut from today's #TDFF action as we went all-in to set up @lorenawiebes for the finale and take the first 🟡 jersey of the race📸 #KeepChallenging
The first edition of Tour de France Femmes kicked off on Sunday. Team DSM rider Lorena Wiebes secured victory in the tour's first stage.
"This is great. I am very happy with this," said Wiebes with a smile on her face. She continues, "The team did a great job. We all worked towards this. I am also very happy for everyone at the headquarters."
Wiebes overtook Marianne Vos in the last few meters of the race and narrowly won the stage. "It was a chaotic and long sprint. I did expect from Marianne Vos that she would make a long sprint, so it is nice to win like this. It was very close, but I could accelerate again until the finish," said Wiebes.
Wiebes says she will keep looking for more opportunities in the tour. "The team has deserved this season. We are already looking forward to the upcoming opportunities," concluded Wiebes. Thanks to her victory, she will participate in the next stage with yellow jersey on her shoulders.
