In the finish, Ghekiere still struggled to come in terms with what she has achieved. "Now I realise what I did and it was a fantastic end to my Tour. Like it was also special for my in the Giro to get on the podium and now I’ve done it on the Tour. It’s the next level, it’s the highest level. It’s perfect."
It wasn't as easy as it might have seemed to find enough motivation to squeeze the legs once again after yesterday's impressive
victory in Le Chinaillon. "I felt so dead today, it was really hard. I knew I had to take the points on the first climb," she knew what was needed to secure the polka dot jersey. "It still wasn’t sure then but it was more of a chance then for the jersey. I had to go all in from the beginning, then it was over for me. I’d had such a short night last night because it was so overwhelming for me. It was really on the limit today so I’m happy I could ride Alpe d’Huez easy and just enjoy the last kilometres on the Tour."
