Younger and younger riders have been infiltrating the World Tour and top results, and over the recent years it has not been unheard of for junior riders to jump directly into the top ranks. That won't be the case of António Morgado and Emil Herzog, however both will likely take the leap in 2024.
The duo have been incredibly successful throughout the 2022 season, and have largerly been the two riders who have won the most, and the best. Both have had an intense battle in the World Championships for the rainbow title, where the German Herzog ended up taking the win. Both were already rumoured, and have been since confirmed to joing Hagens Berman Axeon in 2023.
Both talents are racing under the same agency and are friends. They will be teammates in the American team in 2023, however with one-year deals, it will be near impossible to maintain them into the 2024 season as the hungry World Tour sharks look to bring in new talents into their ranks.
Bici.pro have reported that BORA - hansgrohe have a great deal of interest in World Champion Herzog who has raced for the team's development ranks this year, whilst Morgado is already in talks with UAE Team Emirates - home of several compatriots including João Almeida who had a virtually equal upbringing, and of fellow young supertalents Juan Ayuso and Tadej Pogacar.
