Jordi Meeus "heard a lot of tires explode" in dramatic finale at Heistse Pijl

In a dramatic finale at Heistse Pijl, one of the pre-race favourites, Tim Merlier was ruled out after a puncture. The eventual runner-up, Jordi Meeus the sounds were heard loud and clear.

“I heard a lot of tires explode, but I didn't see any of it. I hope everyone is okay," said the BORA - hasngrohe sprinter in a post-race interview.

The race was won by Jumbo-Visma's Olav Kooij, outsprinting Meeus in the final few hundred metres. "It was mostly suffering. It was very tough towards the hill and after that it never stopped," he recaps. "I can be satisfied with that. I didn't really have a gear anymore."

"Maybe I could have started a little earlier, but I think the fastest won," continues Meeus. "My form is good, so I'm looking forward to it. We are working towards the Belgian championship."
