“I am indeed at the end of my contract” - Olav Kooij on his uncertain future despite impressive form

Taking the 19th win of his budding career, the 21-year-old Olav Kooij is one of the hottest sprint prospects in the peloton today. With his Jumbo-Visma contract coming to an end soon however, his future remains uncertain.

“I am indeed at the end of my contract and those are all things that are also going on,” the Dutch starlet says in his post-race interview following his victory at Heistse Pijl. “At some point, it will all become known, also to myself. Now I have to focus mainly on the road. I am happy that I can add another victory to my record.”

Edging out Jordi Meeus for the win, Kooij had plenty of praise for his Jumbo-Visma teammates. “As a team, we immediately took our responsibility and we helped control the course,” he says. "The guys were so incredibly strong that we were able to keep it up. That is great to see and it is great to finish the teamwork like this.”
