Wout van Aert has another important season ahead, as he prepares to tackle on the Tour des Flandres and Paris-Roubaix in an attempt to finally conquer a cobbled monument. Classics legend and compatriot Johan Museeuw shares the same opinion.
“Of course we cannot ignore the phenomenon of Wout van Aert, who wins time trials and sprints in the Tour," Johan Museeuw told VTM. "But if we are honest, in terms of monuments there is only Milan-San Remo. Then it stops.” The comments come in the wake of another season where the Belgian couldn't win one of his two main goals, as a Covid-19 infection days before the Tour des Flandres spread chaos in the Jumbo-Visma camp.

Although he rode to the podium at Paris-Roubaix, the win kept eluding him. Despite being by far one of the most dominant and best performing riders in the peloton there exists a large pressure for him to win, in Flandres specially - the country's most presitigious one-day race. Museeuw who has won it three times in the past believes van Aert has the responsibility to take that win.
“It is not a criticism of Wout, but every year that is gone is another one. It is admirable what he shows, but it is now time for him to win the Tour of Flanders this year or within two or three years," he concluded. The Jumbo-Visma rider is set to start his season off at Strade Bianche soon.
