It was great to see @LucasPlapp riding so well on Jebel Jais. He comes home fifth atop the climb and now sits second overall. Just seven seconds back on new leader Evenepoel #UAETour
Luke Plapp has impressed so far in the UAE Tour. He's put on a strong performance at Jebel Jais where he didn't lose time on his GC rivals, however lost the lead of the race after Remco Evenepoel captured bonus seconds at the end.
“A fifth record is fine for me. Everyone just rode as fast as possible to the finish and this was the maximum that was possible for me today. The team set me off perfectly," Plapp said in a post-race interview. INEOS did quite some work in the final ascent to keep things under control, with success.

Plapp could have a difficult day, but neither Remco Evenepoel, Pello Bilbao or Adam Yates launched attacks on the 21-kilometer climb. Plapp rode to fifth on the day, outside of the bonifications which led Remco Evenepoel to the race lead.
However, Plapp is not done with his pursuit of the overall win: “This race is not over yet. Everything will be open next week," he concluded. Plapp starts stage 4 seven seconds behind Remco Evenepoel, but until Jebel Hafeet there will be three more flat stages where the winds could play a role.
